Note to Self

I wrote this so the first picture on this blog wouldn't be a giant one of my sixteen year old self.

Although I will now proceed to talk about me.. (ha!)

I have Finnish blood... The sort that allows me to enjoy saunas and rice pudding, coffee lunch and the Northern lights.  I am using that fact to segue into a celebration of Finnish things.

There are a few things I love in addition to Marimekko that are distinctly Finnish.

To begin- the brilliant Tove Jansson, author of the Moomin books our Finnish au pairs would bring as gifts.  The books were in Finnish so only the au pairs could read and translate them for us, but the stories are among my favorites.

2006 vs. 2011

I graduated high school.

Back then I liked:

and in 2011, I graduated college.

things aren't so different.. I like:

inserting lace in all possible areas of my life

The Patience of Ordinary Things

 

a wedding.

I was in this wedding when I was 6.  and now I'm scanning the negatives..  and realizing that I feel weird seeing pictures like this:

 
Never have I seen my composed, beautiful aunt display this sort of emotion, it leaves me feeling unsettled and yet somewhat relieved.

(and doubly strange now that I am blogging this for everyone in the world to see)
